Nosebudz provides protection against viruses and other airborn pathogens for individuals who are in crowded contaminated environments such as airplanes or other crowded or polluted environments.
Approximately about 20 microbial pathogens account for the overwhelming number of contagious respiratory infections. These are either bacteria or viruses ranging in size from 0.08 to 1.1microns. Spores and fungi are about 10 times larger. Viruses are attached to aerosolized droplets since they need an organic surface to remain viable and these are the droplets spread by coughing , sneezing, laughing or just talking. These virus laden droplets vary in size from 1 to 5 microns and are expelled by a carrier person for a distance of 3 to 7 ft before becoming inactivated by the environment. Every winter about 200 million individuals in the US contract the flu with a mortality of about 90,000 people. We have controlled other viral illnesses such as polio, measles mumps and rubella with the proper vaccines but flu viruses have been more challenging because the viral coats of these viruses continually mutate and antibodies developed to protect us one year may not work the next year when a new strain emerges . The Center for Disease control in Atlanta provides guidelines on how to protect against these viral illnesses by avoiding contaminated and crowded environments decreasing the risk of inhaling these viral particles. NoseBudz is designed to stop particles the size of these virus laden droplets the ( 1 micron or larger) while maintaining sufficient airflow to allow normal breathing. It is worn discretely and comfortably for at least 12 hours. The filter is a baffle filter which is only engaged during inspiration and opens up during expiration allowing respiratory moisture to be expelled during expiration. The cones that house the filters are made of hypoallergenic soft silicone which accommodated to all nasal contours. A small nasal strap joins the 2 cones allowing for easy removal.
